Biofilm

Elimination and Prevention

Biofilms are formed when microorganisms attach to interfaces and grow there. They are basically everywhere and represent the oldest proven form of life we know today.  They can flourish whenever interfaces, moisture and nutrients are available.

Biofilms consist of microorganisms (bacteria, protozoa, fungi), extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), dead organic particles and inorganic solutes (cations, anions, DOC, gases).  Biofilms are a kind of gel (a mucous coating or microbial lawn) consisting of extracellular polymeric substances (polysaccharides, proteins, etc.), in which the microorganisms and other substances are embedded.

In technical systems (e.g. pipework) are no known materials, which permanently resist biofilms. This also applies to copper and silver based materials. Many biofilms in water systems are viscoelastic, i.e. they can absorb kinetic energy of the passing water and thereby increase the frictional resistance.

Biofilms in building installations (e.g. in hospitals, hotels, residential - and commercial buildings) may be typical water bacteria with pathogenic potential (particularly Legionella, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa or atypical mycobacteria), which are not eliminated by traditional water chlorination.

REDO technology eliminates biofilms due to the interaction of several highly effective oxidants. Thus, biofilms are eliminated due to the strong depot effect of REDO Technology and prevented from forming again. REDO Technology is already used in Hospitals, Hotels and commercial buildings around the world.
